DRIVING DIRECTIONS FROM FARO AIRPORT:

DIRECTIONS FROM FARO AIRPORT (100km)

Exit airport (around a complicated one-way system); keep heading in direction of the RED Cepsa petrol station.

At petrol station roundabout (r/about has white human statues looking skywards), follow BLUE signs towards A22 (initially they will read "Faro" or "Lisboa/Portimao/Loule/Albufeira").

After a few minutes, ignore the sign to Faro & exit when you see the blue A22 sign towards “Lisboa/Portimao/Loule/Albufeira".

This sliproad will curve you downhill on to a dual carriageway.

Continue straight on this dual carriageway, following the same blue A22 signs reading "Lisboa, Portimao, Albufeira".

After approx 5 minutes, you’ll pass a 1/2-dome football stadium on your RIGHT. Continue to follow blue A22 signs.

Look out for the exit slipraod to "Espanha Olhao".

DO NOT COME OFF HERE BUT IMMEDIATELY AFTER THIS EXIT,  TAKE THE  "Lisboa, Portimao, Albufeifa" exit (Junction 4)

You’re now on the A22, heading WEST. Stay on this road for about 1/2 an hour, all the way to Lagos.

Exit at Junction 1 ("Lagos/Vila do Bispo"). You're about 15 mins away now.

After 3 km, you’ll come to a NEW roundabout. Take 1st exit (RIGHT) towards VILA DO BISPO.

At next roundabout, take 2nd exit to VILA DO BISPO.

Drive for 10 mins, going over various new roundabouts (past signs to Espiche, Luz, Almadena, Burgau)

Eventually (approx 4 km after Burgau/Alma Verde sign) you’ll pass

Intermarche supermarket on your RIGHT (nb: THIS IS YOUR NEAREST SUPERMARKET IF YOU WANT TO STOP TO PICK UP GOODS)

1 km further on you’ll come to another r’about (“Santo Antonio - Parque da Floresta Golf Club”). Take last exit, then immediately left again towards Salema. Drive down the winding road to Salema.

It’s not possible to park directly outside the cottage so you have 2 options:

1) Park in the village centre and walk the 5 minute walk to the house; or

2) Drive to the cottage, park briefly outside to unload, then continue up the hill and park at the top or drive back to the village centre to park.

OPTION 1 (walking)

As you come down the winding hill, park anywhere in the village centre (it can get quite busy in the summer). From here, it’s a 5 min walk up a narrow one-way street (you can drive UP this hill but not down it).

As you’re looking at the seafront, head LEFT up the cobbled street that leads to a couple of shops & restaurants. Go past Boia, Agua na Boca, Aventura bar. Continue up the hill for 5 mins until, on your left, you get to a brown/green tiled house (Casa Patacas) with a large blue iron gate. Opposite this house you will see a small alleyway.

Walk down the alleyway heading in the direction of the sea. Casa Raposa is the first house around the bend on your right - a white house with blue window surrounds.

OPTION 2 (driving)

Drive down the winding hill to Salema. When you get to the village square, don’t turn right but keep going straight ahead towards the sea and when you see the fishing boats infront of you, turn LEFT up a narrow (one-way) street.

Take this road uphill, past a few bars & restaurants.

Carry on until you reach a house, Casa Patacas (on LEFT) with green/brown tiles and blue iron gates.

If you’re lucky, just past this house (on the RIGHT) there may be a space to park outside a bungalow. These 3 parking spaces are for anyone to use (it’s easiest to go uphill and reverse in to the space). You can’t park in the little carpark beside it though – this is privately owned.

If there’s no space, stop outside Casa Patacas, unload your luggage and walk down the alleyway just to the RIGHT of the car, heading in the direction of the sea. Casa Raposa is round the corner on your right - a white house with blue window surrounds.

THE KEY IS IN THE PEG BASKET ON THE WASHING LINE

TO PARK:

If there are no spaces in the 3-space parking bay near the house, continue up the hill and either park at the top of the hill, opposite the big green bins (DO NOT PARK ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE ROAD) or, when you get to the top of the hill, turn LEFT and head back to the village and park there.
